Tips for Getting into a Fitness Routine

September 3, 2021

With summer now over, I find myself wanting to get back into my fitness routine. I usually am much more laid back with workouts during the summer months, really only doing what feels good. Now that I am back into work mode after a relaxing summer, I wanted to share my tips for getting back in to my fitness routine!

1. Cute Workout Clothes

I swear this is a bigger tip than it may seem. I am most motivated to workout when I have something I feel confident. Workout clothes really help not only the workout but showing up for the workout. When I have something fun and cute to wear, I am most likely going to be excited for the workout and keep coming back. I love Amazon for workout clothes. This tank here came in a 4 pack for only 28.99!

2. Pre/Post Workout Snack

I must say, waking up and having my pre workout meal is something I really look forward to. I like to workout mid morning during my lunch break so I love to make a morning smoothie. You can check out my morning smoothie recipe here. Some people wake up and look forward to their coffee, for me I love waking up for this smoothie with my workout gear on. If your a person who workouts out later, you can have your favorite protein bar or smoothie post workout to keep you motivated through your workout.

3. Do What You Love

Let me tell you, this one took awhile to figure out. I absolutely love Melissa Wood Health pilates and yoga inspired flows. They are gentle on my body but I feel so strong after them. I seriously look forward to my workout because they are just that great. You need to find a workout program or class that you love and that excites you or else you won’t want to keep coming back to it. My Melissa Wood Health Review is live here on my site if you want to check it out!

4. Build it into your Schedule

This one is so important for me. I build my day around work and my workout. Workouts keep me energized to get through the day and my mind clear. I like to workout midday so I make sure that I find time for a workout even if it’s only 5 minutes. A little movement is better than no movement so whatever you can get in whenever you have time will make the difference. It’s all about the little consistency that will make habits for you.

5. Don’t Stress!

Missing a workout isn’t the end of the world. I’ve found you just have to listen to your body to see what works for you. I like to workout Monday-Friday and if I’m feeling it, I’ll do a Saturday or Sunday workout too. If I miss one day, I don’t get myself worked up or down because it’s not a huge deal. For me, it’s all about listening to your own body and doing whatever you can to form healthy habits.

I hope these tips for getting into a fitness routine helped you. My perception of working out has really shifted as I’ve gotten older. It’s more about the habit as opposed to the actual work out. You can workout once or twice but until you get a habit formed of working out a few times a week, you won’t stick with it.

For me, these tips have helped me get into my own fitness routine and keep it going all year long. Let me know some of your fitness routine tips in the comments below!

Getting Back into a Routine after Summer

August 31, 2020

I can’t believe I’m writing this as we head back into September. Summer is one of my favorite times in the year but I struggle with getting back into a routine come September. It’s nice to not have as much pressure as the normal year has and to allow yourself to actually enjoy your time. With so much rest and relaxation, it makes it hard to get back in the swing of things. I also think this year with all of the stay at homes, getting back to school and work will be that much harder. Here are some ways that help me in getting back into a routine.

Try and Plan Out Meals & Outfits

I think this one is easier said then done. Once you truly get into the routine of things, this makes life easier. Having meals and outfits already planned just takes stress out of your week. I can’t tell you how much time I spend in the morning finding an outfit if I don’t plan it before hand. I also think the same came be said with dinners because by the time you figure out what to make, it’s just easier to order out.

Utilize your Phone’s Calendar

We all are glued to our phone’s but we don’t take advantage of the calendar’s we can have on it. I personally have Apple products so everything is streamlined together but you can also use Google calendar the same way. As soon as you add something to your phone calendar, it gets on your computer calendar and vice versa. This makes planning easy. Everything is in one place and you don’t have to worry about ruining your planner by crossing things out.

Don’t Pressure Yourself to Do It All

This is one I still struggle with. I feel like as soon as fall comes, I need to be insanely productive and just get stuff done. While this is a good mindset, sometimes I’m not nice to myself about it and make myself feel guilty. Do what you need to do but remember to take time for yourself to relax and hang out. It’s good for your mental health to take a break every once in awhile.

These tips seriously help me getting back into a routine really all year round. I love the times that I get to rest and recharge but getting back to work is so so exciting. Having the time off hopefully gets you inspired to get back to work with a clearer mindset.

5 Time Management Tips You Can’t Live Without

August 31, 2019

It’s the best and worst time of year for college students: syllabus week. This is the week of easy transitions back into college classes after a great summer. It’s also the week that reality sets in and you realize how much work and responsibilities that you have again. Have no fear though, I’m here with my best time management tips and tricks to keep you stress free this semester!

  1. Invest in a Planner

I can’t stress this enough, if you don’t have somewhere to write your events and due dates then you probably won’t remember them. Using iCal, Google Calendar, or a good old fashion planner you write in is absolutely essential in maximizing your time and not missing out on important things.

2. Prioritize Assignments

If you’re like me, reading for classes is something quick and easy where as it takes me much longer for written assignments. At the beginning of every week I like to make a to do list with when I need to have certain assignments done by so that I can stay on track and know exactly what to do which assignment when. Half the battle is starting and its so hard to start when you know you have so many other things to do.

3. Know When to Ask for Help

There’s literally no worse feeling then being seriously stumped on some math problems but just wasting time staring at it hoping it’ll come to you. Professors have office hours multiple times a week and I’m sure other people in your classes will be so willing to give you a little help too. Don’t spend the whole week struggling when you could’ve easily had the answer right away.

4. Getting Balance takes Time

Having a work, live, and social balance will take you more than just one week of back to school. Give yourself time to figure it out and know which classes will take you longer to do during the week. By feeling out what your week is going to look like, you’ll easily know how much time you can have to spend with friends and know when you need to do a little more studying so you aren’t stressed at work. Make sure you ALWAYS make time for yourself because self-care is the best care!

5. Don’t Procrastinate

You’ve probably heard this one a thousand times but here’s your friendly reminder that procrastination just adds to stress. I know a lot of people like the excuse that they do well under pressure but why even add that pressure to your life. If you start assignments early you’ll have plenty of time to be able to finish it and get to do the things you want to during the week. And with the technology we have today, you never know when uploading an assignment will go wrong and then you won’t have the chance to correct the problem before the deadline.

Time management is a skill and I don’t care what anyone has to say about it. Knowing how to prioritize things and balance your life is something that you’ll have to do for the rest of your life so you might as well start getting into the habit of it now. There’s no better time than the beginning of the school year to work on time management to get yourself into a routine that helps make your life much easier!

Getting Back into A Routine After Vacation

August 21, 2019

Vacations always are so much fun but can mess with your daily routines. From eating unhealthy to going to bed whenever, getting back on track can sometimes be so difficult so I put together some of my favorite ways to reset after vacation and get back into your daily routine.

  1. Drink Water!!

I swear that I don’t drink enough water when I’m on vacation. The first thing that I do when I get home is fill up my hydro flask and get back into the routine of drinking so much water. Not only will it help with getting rid of all the food you ate during the vacay it’ll also help to get you back on track with eating healthy.

2. Restock your Fridge

I like to make a rule that after a vacation I’m only going to buy fresh produce and proteins. By setting a limit for myself on what I can and can’t buy, it makes it easier to not be tempted into having all the yummy foods I just ate during vacation. A big one for me is ice cream so I like to make sure it’s completely out of my house before I get back so I’m not even tempted, since it’s my favorite thing to get on vacation.

3. Slowly start to Workout

I can’t tell you how many times I force myself into the gym the day after I come home. Not only do I fell gross but I’m seriously just not into because I’m still in vacation mode. I find that by not going so hard right away, it makes it easier for me to get back into my normal workout routine.

4. Unpack right Away

GUYS!! This might be the most important thing you read: don’t leave your dirty laundry and unpacked suitcase just lying around. I know how insanely hard it is to unpack your bags after a great vacation but you just have to do it and not put it off.

5. Plan before you go

I love making a list of things that I want/need to do after I come back from vacation. This helps me keep myself accountable and stay on track with getting back into a routine. I always like to make sure my house is picked up and clean before I leave for vacation so that when I get back it’s just one less thing I need to worry about.

I am constantly traveling whether it’s family vacations or trips for work so I pretty much have it down to a science. Coming home from amazing trips is literally so difficult but you have to push through and get back on your routine. I promise you won’t regret this tips!
