French Bulldog Life Hacks You Need to Know

October 15, 2021

I love my french bulldog but as many of you know, they are a very particular breed. After having her for now 2 years I can say I have found many french bulldog life hacks that I want to share. I love this breed but you have to be prepared to care for them and their many needs. You can read more posts like these here!

Bentonite Clay Shampoo

I’ve found that shampoos with Bentonite Clay work wonders for my ichy Frenchie. This class has been shown to work wonders for itch and hotspots which is something Sky suffers from over the summer. I love the Moosh brand shampoo because it’s all natural and doesn’t have harsh cleaning chemicals. For me, I would never want to put something on her skin that would potentially have bad effects later on. I stick to all natural and organic ointments and creams. This shampoo does the job to clean her and keep her skin soft and itch free.

Dasuquin Hip and Joint Supplements

french bulldog life hacks

I became interested in giving her hip and joint supplements after some research. Dasuquin was recommended to me by my vet so I have just stuck with it. Starting a pet on hip and joint supplements early, especially if they are a breed prone to issues, can help lessen the chances of developing major issues down the road. One thing I’ve learned with French Bulldogs is the key is to make sure they are bred well and then do everything you can for preventative care.

Portable Fan

This one is life changing. Everyone knows Frenchie’s overheat easily so it’s important to have ways to cool them down. I am obsessed with this little fan because it’s perfect to carry for her wherever we go. The flexible legs are great because I’ll attach them to her carseat in the car to give her an added level of coolness. This little fan from Amazon is powerful and I actually got the recommendation from my cousin who uses this on a baby stroller.

Life Jacket

Because Frenchie’s are top heavy, this French Bulldog life hacks is essential. Life jackets might seem pointless but they can save your pups life. We have this one from ruff wear because we needed one that would prop her head up enough. Some have a buckle around the neck but we need one that was all floating material to support her head so that she can’t get her head stuck.

I hope this French Bulldog life hacks post helps you whether you have a Frenchie or not. All of these tips and tricks are great for a different breed as well. Let me know in the comments below your French Bulldog life hacks or if you have any pet tips or tricks!

French Bulldog Products You Can’t Live Without

May 28, 2021

I’m back again with another French Bulldog products post. You all loved my last one, Frenchie Must Haves for Heat so I thought I would share some more general products. My puppy is now almost 2 years old and I seriously can’t believe it. This is such a magical breed and these dogs have the funniest personalities. Frenchies also can be prone to health issues. Most of these products are geared toward setting them up for success.

Pet Ramp

This ramp was actually a more recent purchase. I noticed Sky would jump off my bed and land really hard. French Bulldogs are more susceptible to things like IVDD and hip/joint problems so I knew we needed to find a solution. I love this ramp, it’s not the cutest in my room but it provides her a gentler way to get off the bed and she seems to be okay with it!

Ear & Eye Cleaner

Finding good products for your pet is literally the best thing you can do. Sky got an ear infection around 6 months old because of those giant and open ears, so we started cleaning her ears out 1-2 times a week. This ear cleaner was recommended by our vet so we love it. We put in in her ear, massage it, then let her shake it out and we take a cotton round and wipe out any excess.

As for eye cleaner, I honestly never thought twice about her tear stains until around January of this year. I noticed they were getting a lot of buildup and even seemed red on the skin. We started wiping her eyes with medicated wipes from out vet once a day. Now, we use these every other day just to keep out infection and bacteria. It’s important to look for eye wipes that are safe to use near the eyes and are anti microbial so they actually work and help to seal out moisture.

Car Seat

french bulldog products

I almost cringe every time I think about how we used to drive with her in the car. I would just let her sit on my lap in the front seat and I now realize how dangerous that is. Dogs really need to be restrained. If you get in an accident, you don’t want them thrown from the car. We are OBSESSED with this Pup Saver car seat. It was pricy but it is actually crash tested and rear facing. I feel so great knowing that she’s as protected as a baby would be. This is probably my top french bulldog products.

Travel Water Bowls

french bulldog products

The one thing I tell everyone is that Frenchies get overheated quickly. I always make sure to have water bowls in whatever car I’m in and fresh water. After going in to a store or walking around she needs some water. I love these with a lid from Amazon. These help to keep the car clean because once she’s done we can cover it up.

Healthy Treats

french bulldog products

This is a big one because Frenchies really can’t be too overweight. It puts a lot of stress on their bodies and can flare up a lot of the health issues we’re trying to prevent. I like to look for low calorie treats that have good ingredients. My favorite brand to buy for her is Bocce’s Bakery. These treats are only 4 calories and have good ingredients that I would eat myself.

Another pro tip that I like to do in the summer is swap out treats for fresh fruits or veggies. I find that things like watermelon and cucumbers help to refresh her in the summer and keep her cool. You can even make your own puppy pops which not only are good treats but can help to keep your pup cool in the summer.

I honestly could go on and on about French Bulldog products. I am obsessed with Sky and am always looking for ways to make her life better. Frenchies are such interesting little characters but you need to make sure you really know what you’re getting into before you get one.

Let me know if you have any dog products you can’t live without because I am always looking to try new things!

Homemade Dog Treats

May 1, 2020

This quarantine has turned me into the homemade dog treats queen. If you read my last post about puppy products you need, then you would know I am a strong advocate for minimal ingredient treats. If you wouldn’t eat them for yourself, then why give it to your pup? I’ve started to make homemade dog treats and I’ve dedicated this blog post to my absolute favorite recipes!

4 Ingredient Dog Biscuits

Ingredients:

1 Banana

1 c Pumpkin

2 c Whole Wheat Flour

1 egg

Directions:

This is one of the best recipes for dog biscuits. Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. Mash up your banana and then mix it with the pumpkin and egg. Slowly start to add the flour and begin mixing with your hands. Once the dough forms, roll it out and add whatever shape. Bake for 25 minutes and let harden before you indulge with your pup! (These store for about a week)

Dog Peeps

Ingredients:

1 c Honey

1 c Water

1 tsp Vanilla

1/4 tsp Salt

3 tbls Unflavored Gelatin

Coconut Flour

Silicone ice cube trays

Directions:

First start by combining 1/2 c of water and gelatin in your mixing bowl. While that is sitting, start stirring the honey, 1/2c water, vanilla and salt in a sauce pan on a medium to high heat. The temperature of the mixture should reach around 240 degrees which will take about 6-10 minutes. After the mixture is the right temperature, add to the gelatin and mix in slowly. Put your mixer on high until you reach a fluffy consistency. Grease your silicone trays and then carefully pipe your fluff mixture into the trays. Let this set for at least 4 hours (I did overnight) and then remove from the mold. I dusted mine with coconut flour because they were still tacky and then let Sky enjoy!!

Puppy Pops

homemade dog treats

Ingredients:

1 Banana

1 c vanilla yogurt

1 tbls Peanut Butter

Directions:

These are my go to treats for Sky! She loves them. First add all your ingredients to your blender and then pour into silicone ice cube trays. Let set and then store in your freezer. Take one out whenever you want to give your pup a sweet treat! These are my all time favorite homemade dog treats!!

As you can see, these homemade dog treats are first so easy to make but second pretty healthy. Too much sugar for dogs isn’t good but making sure they are getting in fruits and veggies is so important. I love knowing exactly what is in Sky’s food so these homemade dog treats are perfect for us!

My French Bulldog Puppy!!

September 22, 2019

I am so excited to finally share with you my new french bulldog puppy! She’s a cream French Bulldog and only 3 months old. Her name is Sky and I am absolutely obsessed with her.

Jordan and I picked her up on Saturday from a french bulldog puppy breeder in New Jersey and we are so in love. She’s very playful and has been constantly keeping us on our toes. We had been looking at Frenchies consistently for the past 6 months and randomly came across Sky’s breeder on Monday. We had been talking back and forth and ended up becoming obsessed with her.

Like I said, she is only 3 months old and is crate trained but we have started potty training today so that we can get into a good routine. She is my first dog although I have been around many. If you have any puppy tips, leave them in the comments below, I’m all ears! Also, let me know if you have a french bulldog puppy or any of the bully breed.

Be on the lookout for more Sky pictures and now blog posts dedicated to all of our furry friends. Follow our adventures on her Instagram: liifewithsky
